Jumping Ships

Jumping Ships are an alt rock quartet from Brighton. They fuse post-rock with pop hooks creating a sound that has musical depth and instant appeal. They are currently set to release their single ‘Heart and Hope’ via uber cool indie ‘Alcopop Records’ (Johnny Foreigner/Stagecoach).

Jumping Ships

The band formed in mid 2008 in Brighton, whilst the band members were involved in the local music scene. They had similar tastes in music and a shared vision with regards to their next project. The band name came from a phrase in an old lyric book that Michael had.

The band started writing and recording straight away and self produced a two track single entitled ‘Liberty Row’. This single caught the attention of BBC Introducing Guru’s Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq who both playlisted the track. The single also attracted interest from David Tindale an engineer at Brighton Electric Studios (Foals/Maccabees/Blood Red Shoes) who offered the band a chance to record during the studio downtime. The band went on a three week tour to promote the release and start playing high profile shows in Brighton supporting; Bombay Bicycle Club, General Fiasco, and playing shows for Club NME and Rock Against Racism. One of their headline NME shows was covered in the magazine alongside an interview with Michael.

The band then spent a year writing and recording their debut EP at Brighton Electric. They all turned into nocturnal creatures, recorded 11 tracks and cut to them down to 6 – they worked through the night and early morning hours. The EP was preceeded by a limited run of ‘The Bad Outweighed The Good’ single (only 50 made) which were boxed and each had four posters in. The EP itself was titled ‘Orientation’ because of a shared vision and direction. It was released on October 25th 2010 and received strong reviews across the board (4/5 Punktastic, 7/10 Rocksound, 4/5 Artrocker). It was decided to use ‘The Whole Truth’ as the flagship track, and they recorded a video with Ryan Mackfall (Ghost of a Thousand/Sharks). It was premiered on Rocksound Website (Front page), Front Magazine Website (Front page).

The debut EP attracted the attention of Alcopop! Records who the band signed to at the beginning of 2011. The band went back into Brighton Electric to record their first single for the label ‘Heart and Hope’. It was recorded by David Tindale and mixed by Anthony Theaker – They are set to release the single on March7th with a two week tour eitherside of the release date and two release shows.. one in London and one a homecoming release show in Brighton.

The new single is set to be on an EP released through Alcopop! later in the year.
