OkCorrel

Basingstoke’s music scene isn’t well known for being the most volatile; nevertheless, it’s the emergence of bands like OkCorrel that put small towns like Basingstoke on the map.

From the bands infancy they’ve made it musically obvious that they’re willing to traipse through the endless amount of generic indie rock’n’roll to form their own sub-genre, which at times like this is a little more than refreshing.

With picked harmonics, and the husky yet alluring vocals of frontman Charlie Bing, this band obviously have more to offer than what would have been expected, especially with such a vast extent of new music making an appearance.

What’s difficult to determine is how their first EP will be received later on this year. Having recorded since their formation in late 2009, and the fact that this band are already selling out venues of two hundred plus, you can’t expect them to do too badly. This is mainly due to releasing a few sample tracks from their EP, which has caused their unbelievably intense live show to only heighten, with a loyal fan base reciting well known tracks such as ‘Past Times’ and ‘Chestnut’.

OkCorrel isn’t the exhausted music of college students; local radio stations and music-zines all over the south are picking up on a band whose promise hasn’t yet fully formed. This is because finding a band like OkCorrel in this age is like finding a needle in a haystack. Although near on impossible, once found it would be a mistake to miss out on.
